Svend Lykkegaard is a Danish-born musician who earned a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (RAMA), Denmark, studying under Professor Kristian Steenstrup, Reinholdt Friedich, and Martin Schuster. While studying in Denmark, Svend became active in the brass band community as a performer, teacher, and conductor. Mr. Lykkegaard moved to America in 2016 and earned a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying under professor Alan Siebert and Philip Collins. In 2018 Svend accepted an offer to pursue a graduate Certificate in Trumpet Performance at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles studying under Thomas Hooten, (Principal Trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic), and Jennifer Marotta, (President’s Own cornetist).
Mr. Lykkegaard has performed as a soloist in both Denmark and America. Svend was a featured soloist with the Silkeborg Blaeserne and won the Aalborg Musik Konkurrence Competition with the Skanderborg Brass Band in Denmark. In America, Svend was the winner in the Brass Concerto Competition at CCM being featured with the CCM Brass Choir and has appeared as a soloist with the Trojan Brass Choir at USC.
As an entrepreneur for music and brass ensembles Mr. Lykkegaard is involved in the re-establishment of the historical Hollywood land Orchestra and is currently creating traditional British style brass bands at several conservatories including the Colburn School of Music and the Pasadena Conservatory in Los Angeles.
